What’s included

  • 20 questions with space to write each answer
  • A separate answer sheet on page 2
  • Name and score boxes
  • 2 A4 pages, designed to print well in colour or black and white

How to play

  1. Print one sheet per player or team. The host keeps the answer sheet.
  2. Write what you think each word means. Close guesses are fine.
  3. Read out the answers and give a point for each one that’s right or close enough.
  4. Let any Scots at the table award bonus points for using the words in a sentence.

Tips

  • If you have a Scot at the table, put them on a team with non-Scots.
  • ‘Lang may yer lum reek’ is a good toast to finish on: may your chimney long smoke.
  • Great for schools learning about Burns and the Scots language.

Printing tips

  • Print at 100% or “Actual size” rather than “Fit to page”, so nothing gets trimmed.
  • Everything is A4. If your printer only takes US Letter, choose “Fit to page” instead.
  • Thicker paper (120–160gsm) feels nicer to write on and survives a night out; plain 80gsm is fine too.
  • Black and white works: the designs are made to stay clear without colour.
